Two detectives from the Madeira unit were attacked while returning home from duty in the Eastern Cape.
A police officer was killed and another critically wounded after they were shot in Ngangelizwe, Mthatha, in the Eastern Cape on Wednesday afternoon.12 The two officers, both attached to the Madeira Detective Unit, were returning home from duty when the incident occurred at approximately 16:30 in the New Brighton area.12
The male officer died at the scene, while the female officer remained in critical condition in hospital.12 Provincial police spokesperson Brigadier Nobuntu Gantana said the names of the officers would be released once next-of-kin notification had been completed.12
Gantana described it as an active crime scene and said further information would be shared in due course.1 Police were still combing the scene for clues.2
